    A renter’s policy will cover a computer that is damaged by one of the covered risks.  If the computer is broken because it simply no longer operates, that is probably not a covered risk.  A covered risk would be fire damage, lightning damage, or something like that.  Some computer manufacturers provide warranties and extended warranties to cover mechanical failures.
