Can A Landlord Purchase Renters Insurance?
- 37376 POINTSview profileDavid G. Pipes, CLU®, RICP®Business Development Officer, T.D. McNeil Insurance Services, Fresno, CaliforniaThe items covered under a renter’s policy are not owned by the landlord. In fact, that is the whole point. The landlord doesn’t have any responsibility towards the personal property of the renter. The landlord doesn’t have an insurable interest and cannot buy the insurance. The landlord can require that a tenant have a renter’s policy as a condition to rent property from him.Answered on August 26, 2014flag this answer
