Why Do I Have To Apply For Medicare At 65?
- 1305 POINTSview profileNeil SteinmanOwner, Orange County Health & Life Insurance,Medicare consists of Part A (hospitalization) and Part B (out of hospital coverage). Assuming there are no extenuating health circumstances, you'll recieve Part A when you turn 65; you will not be charged for it. Part B costs $95 (or more depending on your income). However, you do NOT have to take Part B at age 65. Example: if you have employer coverage, why would you pay for Part B - that would be duplicate coverage. So you can delay Part B until you lose your employer coverage. There are many more scenarios that may occur, but this is a very typical example.Answered on July 14, 2013flag this answer
