   If you are a US citizen or have been a legal resident of the United States for over 5 years, but have not paid enough Medicare taxes to receive free Medicare Part !, you can pay a premium to buy into Medicare.
   
   You can pay the same premium for Part B as everyone else, and take it as a stand alone plan. Or you can pay a premium for Part A. If you purchase Part A, you must also purchase Part B.
   
   Call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 to see what your premiums would be to purchase Medicare Part A and/or B.
