   Check with your Insurance Professional, but it may very well be that your studen't personal property while in the dorm or with them at school would be covered under your Homeowners Insurance policy.  Most policies provide for a percentage of personal property coverage while away from home, usually 10% of the current stated amount and of course subject to your property deductible.  So check it out, you may not need to buy anything additional.  On the other hand, if your student is living off campus in a rental, they may be required by the landlord to have a Renters Insurance policy.  In a case like that , again, check with your Insurance Professional about your options.
