    More often than not, surgical removal of a lipoma is not covered by health insurance. A lipoma is a benign soft tissue tumor that reside below the skin. They are usually soft to the touch and not painful.
     
    More often than not removal is done for cosmetic reasons. Health insurance policies cover treatment that is medically necessary.
     
    If the tumor is large and creating other medical issues (such as pressure on a nerve) or if tests reveal the tumor is liposarcoma your health insurance may cover removal.
