    The homeowner’s policy has an entire section devoted to liability coverage.  Among those covered are pets that are under your control.  The company may have an endorsement that severely limits the liability for damage caused by dogs, and may even exclude dogs of certain breeds or temperaments.  If you are threatened with litigation contact your insurance company.
