Which States Have State Disability Insurance?

    The states that have laws mandating Disability Insurance are California, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island, as well as Puerto Rico. Of these, only California offers a policy that is purchased through the state, and only California uses the exact words, "State Disability Insurance" in reference to their state's program. However, at least short term disability coverage is offered to employees in all these states.
