The haunting question for retirees is how long will their retirement accounts last.  There are two major factors to consider, the first is just the basic rate of withdrawal.  If it is withdrawn at too high a rate it could disappear long before the need for the money is over.  The second is the unexpected expenses.  In particular is the looming specter of long term care.  There are effective ways to plan for this but it is exercising the discipline to follow the plan when you retire that enhances success.
