Renters insurance will cover a dog bite under your liability coverage if you are deemed responsible and there are not any exclusions contained within the policy regarding the loss situation. If you have a dog that has been responsible for injuring someone you may have a difficult time finding a carrier that will provide coverage or you may pay a higher premium for that coverage. Contact a local agent to find out what coverage and exclusions are available amongst what they have to offer.

When purchasing renters insurance you want to be very clear in disclosing the breed of dog you own. Many insurance carriers will exclude certain breeds of dog and failure to disclose can get your claim denied. While dog bits can be covered it is very important to have a discussion with your agent about your breed of dog.

Most renter's policies have liability coverage that will cover you in the event of your dog biting someone. But please be aware that if your dog has a history of biting, and if your dog bites someone, you may or may not be covered. It all comes down to which carrier you have because every company has different rules and regulations. Great question! Thank you for asking!
