   A landlord will require a tenant to have renters insurance to help protect them and you and your family. Renter insurance provides liability coverage and personal property coverage for the insured. The liability coverage will provide for a covered loss occuring that the insured is deemed responsible for and the personal property coverage provides for personal property due to a covered loss.
