A declaration page would show coverage had been purchased, when it had been purchased and when it would expire.  However I would not accept a declaration page as proof of Renters Insurance or any insurance for that matter.  I would not accept it because there is no guarantee that the Insured or Renter will make the next payment for the policy.  If he doesn't, the policy would cancel and you won't know.

If I want proof that coverage is in force, I would request a Certificate of Insurance and I would also request I be named as Certificate Holder.  If I'm named Certificate Holder, the insurance company may (depends on State Regulations) be obligated to tell you when coverage is threatened to be canceled.

I hope I've answered your question.  If not, feel free to call, fax or email me.
