A renter’s policy contains two major “coverages.”  The property being covered is the personal property that the renter owns that is located in the rental unit (some coverage away from the unit.)  The liability coverage provides assistance when you are sued for personal liability or property damage.  There are other coverages included such as extra living expense and medical payments.

A renter’s policy is a package policy.  It combines several coverages.  It covers the personal property located at the residence.  It covers the named insured against law suits for personal injury or property damage.  It also provides for additional living costs should you not be able to stay in the unit due to a covered loss.  It pays for incidental items such as emergency removal, debris removal, fired department charges, and others.  Most renters policies provided medical payments to others coverage and a variety of coverages that fall under the general heading of liability.
