Depending on how much your contents in your home is worth should help you determine the amount of coverage. Many people undervalue their belongings and go for "cheaper" . In my agency we are not allowed to use the word "cheaper". You need the right amount of coverage for what you own. Also if you have any collections or special belongings that are worth more than the base coverage amounts you need to schedule them so you get the true value back. Cheaper is Never Better.

There are two pricing decisions when ordering a renter’s policy.  The first is the amount you want to receive if every bit of your personal property is destroyed.  Do you want that property replaced with new or used replacements?  The second is to determine what amount of liability insurance you require.  Often this can be as simple as asking, “What do you have to lose?”
