Renters insurance typically covers the insured and immediately family members residing at the covered premise only. Room mates should always secure there own renters coverage as their personal items are not covered under a policy that is not their own in almost all cases. Contact a local agent to get more details about renters insurance coverage.

Some insurance providers may allow you to add a room mate to the renters policy but they must be listed in order to be covered. What is most often the case is each roommate will be required to carry their own insurance to protect their own liability and property.
