Renters insurance covers any property that you own.  If the items are in your garage then they would be covered for any peril covered under your policy.  Do not store valuable items in your garage.  It is usually much easier to break into a garage than a home.

If the residence you are renting includes a garage, your personal property stored in the garage would be covered if damaged by one of the covered perils.  If the property is stored in a friend’s garage it would be covered to a specified percentage of your personal property limit.  Review your policy to determine that percentage (usually 10%)
