   Standard renters' insurance does not cover damage to property from flooding. A separate flood policy is available through most insurance agencies, as part of the Federal flood program. Usually, the coverage that is most important to the renter is for contents that could possibly be damaged as a result of flooding.

   Renters insurance policies do not cover flood losses. In order to insure that your belongings are protected in the event of a flood you would need to purchase a flood insurance policy. Flood insurance is a government regulated program and cannot be included on your everyday renters policy. Anyone can purchase flood insurance, however, it is particularly important if you live in a moderate or high risk flood zone.
