Renters insurance would not cover the vandalism to your car, but could cover vandalism to the personal belongings inside the car, if they in fact were vandalized. You would need auto physical damage coverage in place to cover the vandalism. In lieu of liability coverage on your car, you need "other than collision" coverage or "comprehensive" coverage which are synonymous with each other. Good luck with your claim And please don't hesitate to contact me with any additional questions that may help you out.
I think Jeff gave you a great answer yet I want to add one other consideration. While your homeowners policy will not respond to the vandalism, Jeff is correct that you may have personal belongings covered under your homeowners policy. In addition to the personal property you may have business property coverage under your homeowners. It will typically not be a lot and you may not have had a loss that includes business property, but we do see more people working at home and on the road, so that business property is not unusual. Read your policy and see your agent for more complete review.

Renters Insurance does not cover any damages to your vehicle. That is what auto insurance is for. Your auto in this case would be covered under comprehensive coverage known as other then collision coverage. Your personal belongs would be covered under your renters policy minus your deductible. If your personal items were damage or stolen renters most likely would pick up the cost to repair or replace. Personal belongs are the items that are not part of your vehicle.
