    Some companies might issue a back dated renter’s policy.  They would require assurance that there won’t be any claims arising from that period of time. The only reason you might want this is to stop a landlord from exercising their right to put coverage in force if you haven’t.  The property insurance companies that I know of would be very reluctant to back date a policy.
