    A landlord can not make you buy anything you do not want to buy, but they require that you purchase renters insurance within the agreement or lease that you sign if you want to rent the property that they have to rent. Renters insurance is typically a very low cost insurance and if you combine your auto insurance and renters insurance with one carrier the discount on the auto may almost pay for the renters.
