Medicare does not include any medical treatment that is considered "expermental". This does not mean that a medical procedure that is being studied would be excluded. Your Physician would be the best resource for this information. Usually, the treatment for various types of blood disorders and cancers are recgonized procedures that would be covered by Medicare. You can read the section regarding this on the Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services website that is here: http://www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Guidance/Manuals/downloads/ncd103c1_part2.pdf .
I would encourage anybody about to receive treatment to consult with your Physician's office about the role of Medicare in their treatment payment. You should check with your Insurance plan if you have a Medicare Supplement and have them determine their role as well.
If you have Medicare Advantage, they will follow Medicare guidelines and you will need to get preauthorization.
