Will Medicare Cover A Nursing Home?

   Medicare coverage for Nursing Home is extremely limited.  You must be admitted to the hospital for at least three days not counting day of discharge, you must need skilled care, and the reason for your care must be related to the reason for your hospital stay.  Medicare will pay all of the first 20 days in a Skilled Nursing Facility.  Days 21 through 100 you will have a copay.  This year that copay is $148 per day.  Medicare does not pay for custodial care, which means that unless there is the ability for the persons health to improve by receiving skilled care, Medicare will not pay.
