Medicare Part B covers diagnostic tests, including an MRI, when your doctor has determined it is needed to help diagnose a medical problem.  Part B will pay for 80% of the expenses - you're responsible for paying the other 20%.  A Medicare supplement plan would cover these expenses.

An MRI is a diagnostic test and is covered under Medicare Part B. This year the annual deductible for Part B is $166 and after you have met that deductible Medicare will cover 80% of all of you Part B medical expenses. Medicare Supplements cover the 20% that Medicare leaves off. If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan you will have a co-pay for the test. The co-pay for a diagnostic test vary depending on the plan you have.
