    You will receive Medicare Part A benefits automatically when you qualify. You will take this benefit when you qualify because it doesn't cost anything. Medicare Part B is voluntary. You can tell Medicare that you would delay your Medicare Part B benefits. You can do this when you have creditable coverage through your employer or retirement plan. You will incur a penalty if you delay your benefits without creditable coverage then active them later.
