Medicare Safety Nets provide additional relief to Medicare recipients in Australia who incur higher than usual medical costs. Under the Original Safety Net, a rebate is provided when a threshold is reached for out-of-pocket medical services. Under the Extended Safety Net, Concession cardholders and families eligible for Family Tax Benefit (Part A) can receive 80% of out-of-pocket costs or the EMSN benefit for out-of-hospital services (whichever is lower) when a threshold is met.

To obtain the thresholds and see if you are eligible, call Medicare General Enquiries 132 022 any time of the day or night, 24 hours per day.
