You can get Medicare at age 65. If you have paid into Social Social Security taxes for at least 40 quarters (10 years), your Medicare Part A will not have a monthly premium. If you miss the sign up date, there are times when you can sign up for Medicare past age 65.
Persons under 65 can get Medicare if they have been on Social Security Disability for two years, have end stage renal disease, or have Lou Gehrig's disease.
