Medicare will cover skilled care when:
1) The facility providing the skilled care is Medicare certified.
2) You have Medicare Part A and there are remaining days in your benefit period.
3) You have stayed in the hospital three consecutive days for the same condition which requires you to receive skilled care.
4) Your skilled care must generally be received within 30 days of your hospital stay. If you stop receiving skilled care and then need it again within 30 days, you should not need to have another three day hospital stay to qualify.
5) Your care is ordered by a Medicare approved doctor and reasonable for your diagnosis.
Medicare will cover skilled care meeting the above conditions, in full, for the first 20 days. After that, a co-pay is required up to day 100, when Medicare no longer covers the cost of receiving skilled care.
