When you first sign up for Medicare, usually at age 65, you should buy Medicare supplement coverage when you go on Part B.

If you buy a supplement plan within 6 months of your Part B eligibility you do not have to provide evidence of insurability. After that period you must answer health questions.

If you are already on Medicare part A and B and haven’t a supplemental plan you should start shopping for a plan. There is an open enrollment period and that will allow you access if you have existing health concerns. If you qualify you can start a plan outside the open enrollment period.
