When Is The Best Time To Buy A Medigap Policy?
- 440 POINTSview profileAlbert Rasmussenowner, retireright, scGenerally speaking I always suggest buying a medigap policy three months prior to your 65th birthday. It will not be effective until your 65th birthday. You must have your medicare card established. By setting up the plan with medigap three months prior, you lock in that rate. Now the price of the premium cannot go up by doing it early. Also it eliminates one necessary procedure to do when you turn 65.Answered on November 14, 2014flag this answer

That need starts the day that they start on Medicare so they should apply before that date. If for some reason the coverage lapses they should make every effort to get a replacement policy as soon as possible. The Medicare program is not designed to take care of all of a person’s medical needs.Answered on February 20, 2015flag this answer
- 2330 POINTSview profileSteve AdlmanOwner, Alabama Medicare Plans, Birmingham, AlabamaWhen you first activate your Medicare Part B coverage at age 65 or older is the best time to buy a Medicare Supplement. When you activate your Part B coverage under federal law you are placed in a six month Open Enrollment Period to purchase any Medicare Supplement offered in your state. You will not have to answer any health questions and your acceptance is guaranteed. Once your Open Enrollment Period ends you can purchase a Medicare Supplement at a later date but you will have to answer all health questions on the application and if you have any serious health conditions you could be denied coverage. If you wait to purchase a Medicare Supplement because you have developed a serious health condition you may be disappointed in the outcome.Answered on August 3, 2016flag this answer
