When you qualify for medicare when you reach your social security retirement age. There are also three events that can happen prior to your reaching your social security retirement age that would qualify you for medicare; they are:
1. You are on Social Security Disability for 24 months and continue to be eligible for it
2. You are diagnosed with end stage kidney failure
3. You are diagnosed with ALS and have received SSDI benefits for at least one month.
