    The Medicare tax rate is 1.45% each for the employee and employer, regardless of income. For employees making over $200,000 per year, an additional 0.9% must be withheld from their wages in 2013. This additional Medicare tax (AMT) is only charged to the employee; the employer does not have to match it.
