Plan F offers the most comprehensive coverage - it covers all Medigap benefits at 100% from day 1. The advantage of this plan is that it creates a very predictable healthcare expense structure (for the most part, you're writing a check for your premium and you're done - you won't get hit with big bills for any Medicare-approved charge).

Plan G is the second most comprehensive plan available - it's identical to plan F except you would be responsible for the Medicare Part B deductible ($147 in 2014). The advantage of a plan G is that in many areas the savings in premium per year are greater than the cost of the deductible. For example, if the difference in premium is $30 per month - you're saving $360 per year by taking on a risk of $147.

Please note, the plans feature the exact same benefits regardless of which carrier you have the coverage through - the big factor to look at the price of the plan you select.

I hope the information is helpful - please feel free to contact me for assistance with your Medigap coverage and if you have any other questions. Thanks very much.

The best Medigap policy is one that your agent has shopped the market for THIS YEAR.
See, most agents sign you up for a plan when you turn 65, then completely abandon you when you're 68, 69, 70. Having an independent agent shop the market for you will quickly let you determine what the "best" plan in the market to have is.  We do that for clients in 34 states.

This video will shed more light on how to find the "best Medicare Supplement plan."
