The best Medicare supplement plan (Medigap) plan is the one that fits your own needs and budget. All Medicare supplement insurance plans with the same letter are identical in every way except price and there truly is no "best" company . . . in spite of what some may tell you.
Medigap plan F is the most popular, mostly because it is oversold. Far too many agents promote the plan because it is easy to explain.
It is also the most expensive plan.
I recently spoke with a couple that had a Medicare supplement plan F from a very well known carrier. The wife was quite adamant that she had shopped around and "company M" had the best rate.
I did not want to argue, but I offered that, over the last 4 years I had sold maybe 3 policies with that carrier and it was only because the client insisted on buying from them. Then we compared rates on my most popular plan and discovered they could save over $1700 per year by switching plans.
There is no single "best" plan or "best" carrier, but likewise there is no reason to pay more than you have to.
