    Medicare Part C added Advantage Plans to the Medicare mix.  
    Advantage plans are usually HMO's or PPO's.  Medicare takes your coverage and assigns it to the insurance carrier you choose.  That company is now your Medicare provider and you are subject to the rules and limitations that they impose.  If you leave your area, chances are you leave your insurance behind as well.  Most have very low, or no premiums, but include exposure to the beneficiary through co-pays and co-insurance that could result in significant out of pocket expenses to the beneficiary.  Most plans also include drug coverage so you would not need a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.  All drugs may not be covered.
