Medicare itself does not pay for transportation. However, some Medicare Advantage Plan carriers provide a transportation benefit even though it is not covered by Medicare. Example of transportation benefit: 24 1 way rides to a local medical appointment per year. If that's an important factor to you, mention it to your agent - they'll know the plans in your area.

Medicare itself does not cover transportation other than an emergency ambulance ride. A small number of Medicare Advantage HMO plans offer limited transportation.
It is becoming more common for major doctor groups to offer transportation to their Medicare clients. Don't be afraid to ask the next time you schedule a visit.
ALSO - some states have special transportation setups for those on Medicaid. Again, ask.
