I’m 66, Unemployed And Have Never Worked. Do I Have To Sign Up For Medicare?
- 2330 POINTSview profileSteve AdlmanOwner, Alabama Medicare Plans, Birmingham, AlabamaYou are not eligible for Medicare if you have never worked and not paid Social Security taxes. You have to have worked at least 10 years or 40 quarters and paid Social Security taxes to be eligible for Medicare.Answered on November 28, 2016flag this answer

This may be cheaper than signing up for an individual plan. Contact the centers for Medicare to determine your eligibility & costs. If you decide to go that route, you will then want to look at adding a Medigap plan or Advantage plan.Answered on February 10, 2017flag this answer
