Some Medicare patients will qualify for gastric bypass or lap band surgery.

Your doctor must have certified that you are morbidly obese, other methods of weight loss have been tried and failed. Surgery should be considered based on your overall health.

Morbid obesity is considered a disabling condition under Social Security, so some on SSDI may qualify for Medicare coverage if you are under the age of 65
