There are 3 ways that you would be eligible for Medicare prior to age 65.
You are receiving disability payments from SSI for 24 months or more. You would qualify if you were receiving Railroad Disability Annuity payments as well but the length of time varies.
You have been diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The ESRD complication has required dialysis or a kidney transplant. You would need to apply to Medicare and receive SSI benefits.
You have been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (AML) or known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease and you are receiving SSI benefits.
