Buy a life insurance policy from an agent that you trust. If you don’t have an agent, get a recommendation from a friend, colleague or neighbor. Make sure that you can work with the agent and that the agent accurately records the information that you provide. When the policy is delivered make sure that it is exactly what you ordered. Companies are supervised by your state insurance commissioner and the commissioner is committed to protecting the buying public.
Life insurance companies usually sell their products through agents, although some carriers sell products directly online or via snail mail. Life insurance agents are either captive, independent, or brokers. Captive agents usually sell for one company, whereas independent agents and brokers can sell products from multiple companies.
Some people like to stick with one company for all their insurance needs (home, car, health, life, etc). For them, a captive agent may be best. Others want to get the lowest price for each type of policy they purchase. Using an independent agent or broker can help you get a life insurance policy that is most competitive for your age, health, or type of policy that best suits your needs.
Any of these options can be found online. Websites that offer online quote engines generally can do nearly all of the transaction digitally or by mail. Other websites tell you about the company so that you will call them to set up an appointment. Whatever you are most comfortable with is where you should buy your life insurance from.

Since you're asking where to buy life insurance I'm guessing you don't have an insurance adviser that you work with. So my first suggestion is to locate an insurance adviser in your area. Try an internet search or the phone book. When you interview advisers find out if they are able to sell policies from a number of insurance providers or only one. Find out which Mutual Insurance companies they work with. Mass Mutual, New York Life and Guardian are the strongest, and in my experience Mass Mutual is the best because they put the client's interests above their own. So if you can't find an Insurance Adviser/Broker, call your local Mass Mutual agency.
