That will depend on your age, health, and the amount of coverage desired. I have seen young folks get underwritten in one day, while most adults will take about three days, with some more complex health matters taking several days. If your doctor submits your medical file promptly, you should not expect much delay. It is critical to get your doctor to act. Gary Lane, New York Life, Registered Representative. 949 797 2424. It can take from several hours to several months to underwrite a life insurance policy. If you are getting a policy that does not require any exam or medical files (referred to as APS's by the life insurance industry, which stands for Attending Physician Statements), the time will be much less than if your underwriting includes an exam and/or medical records. Listing all your doctors on the application can help speed things up, so all your APS's can be ordered at once.  It also helps to take your exam ASAP. Don't worry if it takes a while; by getting all the medical information they need, you can be sure that the life insurance company will pay out at your time of need.
