You can get life insurance on someone else if you have an insurable interest with that person. This means that their death would cause you some type of financial harm. Quite bluntly, this prevents people from taking out policies on others for criminal or fraudulent purposes.

Yes, you can get Life Insurance on someone else.  Refer to Peggy's comment on insurable interest.  Here are a few situations which you can look at getting life insurance on someone else (keep in mind, for anyone over 18, they have to sign the application as well):  Parent insuring children, Spousal insurance, Insuring a Key (important) employee or insuring your business partner so if he passes, you can purchase his ownership from his family.

If you have a situation that I did not cover here as there are more, reach out to your broker or contact one of us.

Can you get life insurance on somebody else?  Outside of your small children. Not without the insured's consent.  Even a spouse, parent or sibling must agree to be insured. As others mentioned there should be an insurable interest present as well. Even employers can't take out life insurance on employees without their consent.
