For a rental property you will need a Dwelling Fire Policy commonly known as a Landlord Policy. This type of policy will protect the owners dwelling, other structures any personal property if chosen. Also Personal Liability (which may be called business liability on some polices), guest medical and Loss of Rents. Some policies will also include Personal Injury and wrongful eviction which in my opinion are essential. Talk to your local agent about your specific needs. Also keep in mind your tenants property is not covered by a Landlord policy nor is the tenant’s liability. As a landlord I highly recommend you require your tenants to maintain renters insurance and list you as an additional insured.
