    Homeowners insurance often called hazard insurance has three (3) policy form types known as Basic, Broad and  Special. 

    Basic form will cover

    Fire
    Lightning
    Internal Explosion
    Windstorm or Hail
    Explosion
    Smoke
    Aircraft or Vehicle
    Riot or Civil commotion
    Volcanic eruption
    Vandalism

    Broad form will cover all the above and add:

    Burglary damage
    Falling Objects
    Weight of Ice and Snow
    Water Damage by pipes bursting (pipe itself is not covered for this peril)
    Discharge, overflow steam
    Freezing of plumbing
    Artificially generated electricity

    Special form covers everything except that is not specifically excluded:
    Below or the most common exclusions

    Ordinance or Law
    Earthquake
    Flood
    Power failure
    Neglect
    War
    Nuclear hazard
    intentional act
    Insects or Vermin

    Special form has two type of form known as HO3 and HO5 in which you can increase or add specifically limited coverage's such as jewelry.
