Homeowner insurance works much in the same way as it does a home. The condo policy covers all furniture fixtures and walls below the roof and within the exterior walls. The only primary difference is the percentage of ownership of the roof, outside walls, separate structures. There is special insurance for a condominium.
Let me add a couple important points to what has been said. The homeowners policy and therefore the condo policy has important liability coverage. Make sure you have sufficient coverage for liability as your exposure is often greater than someone who insures a single family residence. And lastly you do not find many free standing homes with sprinklers as most of the 126 million homes in the US were built before sprinklers became possible in dwelling construction, but many condos. because of size and structure do have sprinkles and many insurance companies give a discount to those policies. Be sure to mention to your agent that your condo building is sprinklered if in fact it is.
