- 1805 POINTSview profileSamuel SmithEnrolled Agent-licensed to practice before the IRS, Samuel N Smith, EA, South CarolinaHome Owners Insurance DOES NOT COVER FLOODING. Depending what "flood plain your home is located you can purchase flood insurance reasonably or if you are in a high risk area for flooding your vacation plans may have to be changed. Under no circumstances should you be assuming this risk and please also remember EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED BY HOMEOWNERSAnswered on November 24, 2013flag this answer

Only Flood Insurance will offer the protection you and your family need in the event that you face damage to your home and personal belongings as a result of a flood. Talk to your Insurance Professional and visit "FloodSmart.gov" for more information.Answered on November 25, 2013flag this answer
- 1844 POINTSview profileDavid W. ClausenChief Executive Officer, Coastal Homeowners Insurance Solutions, Rocky Point, NY 11778Homeowners policies contain a specific exclusion for the peril "Flood". Flood is defined as , "A flood is a general and temporary condition where two or more acres of normally dry land or two or more properties are inundated by water or mudflow." Maybe people confuse "flood" as a peril as compared to "flooding" of a basement or floor. If, for example, a pipe were to burst and "flood" the basement that would be a covered loss under a Standard HO-3 Homeowners Insurance Policy. It would cover the damage to the dwelling and your contents but not the cost to replace the pipe itself. Hope this helpsAnswered on June 24, 2015flag this answer
