Does Homeowners Insurance Cover Defamation?
- 21750 POINTSview profileJim WinklerCEO/Owner, Winkler Financial Group, Houston, TexasThat is a really great question! You actually may be covered by the liability section of your homeowners coverage. The liability section (and you want to check with your agent to be sure of your specific coverage and limits) can cover a range of legal issues, and can help cover costs for your defense costs, settlements, and damages. Thank you for asking!Answered on May 9, 2014flag this answer

Though all Homeowners Insurance policies these days include coverage for Liability loss, that does not necessarily include defamation as a covered peril. Liability coverage protects you in the event you are legally liable for causing someone physical injury or damaging their property. Some companies , like Nationwide for example offer optional "Personal Injury" coverage that can be easily and inexpensively added to your Homeowners coverage.Answered on May 9, 2014flag this answer
