A lot of the things coming to the rest of the country with Obamacare, residents of Washington have had since around 2000. The changes coming with the new healthcare laws will not have as dramatic effect here than elsewhere.
The cost of health insurance in Washington is high, because the requirements to market it are very tight and you have to be in compliance to sell your product for any state you do business in. That said, health insurance is very safe in Washington, the risk of failure is very low because the standards are very high.
