There are no truly "best" plans but there are a lot to avoid.

Most carriers have plans that only cover generic drugs, and some have plans that cover some generics and a few brand name.

I would avoid those plans at all costs.

Consider your OOP (out of pocket) maximum. Some include the deductible while others are in addition to the deductible. Most plans cap your family OOP at 2x the individual maximum while some are 3x.

If you have a family plan, consider those that limit the OOP to 2x.

Also, be aware that copay's do not count toward your deductible or OOP maximum.

The best Health Insurance Plan is the plan that covers the most for the premium that you can afford. Most people will look to cover with a traditional company and be held to the old style of coverage. The new Health Reform law has created many problems for families and small businesses and their ability to afford coverage. The best plan might be a traditional plan with Copays and Rx coverage or it might be something else such as a high deductible plan, or self insure plan with stop loss coverage. Many new ideas such as tele-medicine or defined contribution might help improve your benefits.

You should work with a health insurance broker that is aware of multiple offers and solutions. A quote through a website might leave you with paying too much or not getting the most benefits for your premium dollars. The best plan is changing and you will need information to make a "best" decision.
