I presume you mean after termination of your employment.  The answer partially depends upon the circumstances of your termination.  If you were terminated for cause (especially if it was associated with criminal conduct) then your coverage can often be terminated as of the date you were fired.  If the termination is of the more standard type due to being laid off or your position being eliminated at your employer your coverage will generally continue to the end of the month in which you were terminated.  This is especially true if you were contributing towards the cost of your health insurance and have had premium payments withheld from your paycheck.

Depending upon the size of the employer you worked for you will also have continuation of coverage rights that you can exercise.  If your employer has less than 20 employees then state continuation of coverage provisions apply, if your employer has 20 or more employees the Federal COBRA guidelines apply.  You should discuss this with your former employer, their HR department or their insurance broker to determine which of these continuation scenarios apply to your specific situation.  In the event that you elect to continue your coverage through your former employer's health plan you will be responsible for paying the entire monthly premium (your employer can add a 2% adjustment to cover their administrative expense) and you must remit that premium promptly each month or the employer is within their rights to terminate your coverage.

Losing your coverage through your employer is also a qualifying event under the Affordable Care Act which gives you a 60-day period to purchase individual health insurance coverage either inside or outside of the government health insurance marketplaces.  Depending upon your individual circumstances and income level this may be a better option that paying for continuation of coverage under your former employer's group health plan.  I would recommend you seek out the services of an experienced health insurance broker to help you make an informed decision about which option is best for you.
