    A deductible is the amount of money that you would pay before your health insurance kicks in. For example, if you have a $3,000 deductible and need to go to the hospital then you would pay the first $3,000. Your insurance would kick in after that.

    For folks age 65 and over that are on Medicare along with a Medicare Supplement it will work a little differently. The deductible on most of the plans would be smaller and for doctors and tests not the hospital.
